And So It Starts

On June 16, 2008, I posted a blog entry stating my objections to both Presidential candidates. Neither Senator John McCain nor Senator Barack Hussein Obama is ideal candidates. In my fourth paragraph, I mentioned just a few reasons why Senator Obama should not be President of the United States. I labeled him for what he is – a Marxist. Below is the paragraph I am referring to –

The decision to not vote for Barack Hussein Obama is easy. It is not because he is a Democrat. It is because he is an American hating Marxist. Too harsh? Check out some of his friends - William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, Eric Holder, James A.
Johnson
, Tony Rezko. Check out a glimpse of his beliefs of what he really believes concerning the American voter, - “It’s not surprising that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigration sentiment or anti-trade sentiment.” Check out whether he believes in American Individualism or Marxist Collectivism from his recent commencement address – “It’s because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. Because thinking only about yourself, fulfilling your immediate wants and needs, betrays a poverty of ambition. Because it’s only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential and discover the role you’ll play in
writing the next great chapter in America’s story.” Moreover, what is his opinion of the peaceful transfer of power, from one administration to another? During a
Philadelphia Inquirer interview when asked if he "would aggressively go after and investigate whether
crimes have been committed,” this is what Obama had to say –“… if crimes have been committed, they should be investigated.” If that statement is vague,
Obama’s own website clarifies this issue – “…and to hold accountable any perpetrators of potential
war crimes.”
Nowhere in my website do I mention Senator Obama’s race or the color of his skin. Yet, this is a comment I received -

Just like the poor bitter undereducated folks clinging to religion who pulled the lever for W in 2000 and 2004, we latte-sipping America-hating socialist elites will be voting for Obama in November and propelling him to victory due to our liberal white guilt.

I'm looking forward to the racist Barack Obama punishing all white people when he becomes elected, including his half-white self and white grandmother. I imagine most of
them will be leaving for Canada.

- William "Mussolini" Bowen
And so it starts. A reply from an Obama supporter brings up race. Perhaps I am too dense to understand the subtleties of liberal humor, but I understand the second paragraph of the comment to imply that I am a racist. That I fear an Obama Presidency because I am afraid that a black man will implement policies that will be harmful to me – a white man. Ha ha.

This is the main weapon the Obama campaign – and his supporters – will use this election cycle. If anyone disagrees with him or his policies, it will be because he is black. Not that his policies will bankrupt America but because we are racist! So much for the candidate who started his campaign as being above race; whose goal was to bring the races together. Well, this strategy may work with Senator McCain and his campaign but it will not work with me. I will continually point out the Marxist views and statements of Senator Obama and no amount of calling me a racist will stop me.

Of course, you didn't know that failing to vote for a black man automatically makes you racist? I am also a racist because I did not vote for Alan Keyes when given the chance. That is the sole tenet of the Obama campaign - you're either with us or you're a racist. His support has far less to do with the failed policies of George W. Bush or the war profiteering neo-conservatives who hijacked the Republican Party and drove ths country deeper into debt. Nope, much more to do with liberal white guilt and so Obama supporters must rely on race baiting.

/sarcasm off

You had it right the first time, stick to your guns about the policies. Attempting to drive home the point about Obama's middle name does not help your case for not being racist. Why? It's just a middle name, sure. But why do you use it? The same reason many GOP surrogates use it. To drive home to all the redneck idiots "he is not one of us" (e.g., he is not a white person with Christian ancestors). I don't fear any man simply because his middle name is "Hussein" but many ignorant folks out there do. When you intentionally use "Hussein" in the context you are using it to call attention to Obama's difference in background, which since he is Christian, is largely based around ethnicity. Or you're trying to link him by association to the deceased Iraqi despot Saddam Hussein. Either way, it's a thinly veiled attempt at fear mongering, it's silly, it's childish and a waste of cyberspace. You're too well read to bother with that nonsense.

I truly believe race plays no role in your distaste for Obama. But many Americans - 2 or 3 in 10 have admitted race is a factor. Voters in states like WV and KY have admitted they can never vote for a black person. There are some white people who are voting against Obama merely because he is black, there are people of all colors that are merely voting for him because he is black (more of the former in my opinion). Most black Americans tend to vote largely Democrat anyway, although turnout will likely be higher.

Anyway, back to the policies. I'm sure you realize - as you have noted - your boy McCain is no better. A few studies have evaluated the proposed fiscal reforms and new programs of both candidates and found that while Obama is painted as the classical "tax and spend" liberal, McCain's programs will actually increase the national debt than Obama's "Marxism."

You can't talk about an Obama flip-flop without finding an at least as egregious McCain flip-flop. You want to make personal attacks on Obama based on who he hung around with? That's fine, McCain's just as dirty between lobbyist ties, the messy business with his first wife, etc. Want to talk about Obama pandering? How about McCain's nonsense gas tax holiday?

On national security, everyone always assumes McCain is the superior candidate. This is a man who doesn't know the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims. While McCain wanted to follow Bush into Iraq (which was both keeping Iran in check and was not an Al Quaeda haven), Obama realized (and continues to realize) there are far more terrorists in Pakistan, and now our forces are stretched too thin in Afghanistan because we failed to finish the job with the Taliban.

You can bet that Al-Queda and other unflinchingly anti-American extremists are licking at the chops for a McCain election. Another white devil just like George Bush, they'll say. They rejected the man with the Muslim father to elect the "decrepit" white Christian who wants to destroy us. It'll be easy recruiting for those groups. Imagine on the other hand, the U.S. elects Obama. Muslims see a vital man of some color before them, preaching tolerance of religion but uncompromising retribution for terrorism. Covert U.S. propaganda disseminated to those countries can mention Obama's father's Muslim roots. The battles we are fighting now are not only fought with guns and missiles - there's an equally important war being waged via propaganda and message. The U.S. is just now realizing it needs to work with other countries to help their population realize the U.S. is not waging a Christian war on Islam. Extremism does not make you a better Muslim. Obama's not the pushover that his opponents would have us believe - the man rose to political prominence in Chicago of all places - any more than McCain is the mindless war mongerer his opponents paint him as.

But all other things being equal, Obama's just smarter than McCain. Some people view that as a drawback and equate it with arrogance. Perhaps, there is some arrogance involved, but Bush has plenty of arrogance despite being a confessed "average student." Even if you assume both politicians are irresolute flip-floppers who are going to run up the national debt, wouldn't you at least like the smarter guy? He might make a few better decisions along the way.

I know you will never pull a lever with a "D" on it because of your partisanship, but will your love for "R" really allow you to pull that lever for the lesser of the two candidates even if both are lacking?
